Here is a sample program, from an actual South Hill Brass performance:

"The Belgian March"  by Scotson Clark
"From Stephen Foster"  by Walter Beeler
"Centone No. II, Part I"  by Johann Fux (pronounced "No eleven, part aye!")
"Quintet No. 6"  by E. Rollé
          "Jazz Etude"  by Don Haddad
"Quintet in B Minor, Third Movement"  by Victor Ewald
"Gay Nineties Medley"  by Bill Holcombe
"This Old Man March"  by Robert Nagel

(Note:  This was our intended program.  The actual performance ran overtime, and we were forced to make modifications.)
Repertoire of the South Hill Brass
While the individual members may be able to "play by ear" and/or improvise, the South Hill Brass, as a whole, requires written music.  A great deal of music has been written, or arranged, for brass quintets, but the South Hill Brass has access to only a small fraction of this, even with extensive borrowing from local schools.  (With several members of the South Hill Brass serving as school band directors, the negotiations are amazingly congenial.)

The South Hill Brass does not specifically focus on or reject any particular composer, time period, or musical style.  By simply assembling what we believe will be the most enjoyable overall performance, for both ourselves and the audience, we generally include a variety of music.  While our music tends to sound somewhat "serious" -- brass quintet music is, after all, brass quintet music -- in recent years we often include more "popular" music (dixieland and hits from the thirties and forties).
To date, the South Hill Brass has performed no music by Eddie Condon, Neil Diamond, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, or the artist formerly known as Prince.  This may change in the future.  There is no significance to these omissions, which in no way reflect the tastes of either the South Hill Brass as a whole, or the individual members.
